The Mulberry Tree Inn is nestled in the historic district of South Dennis. Described by some as a "historic gem" the home was built by Captain Eleazer Nickerson in 1802 for his wife, eight sons, and daughter. Built as a traditional Cape the home faces South maximizing the warmth and light of the sun as was frequently done in early American building. Captain Nickerson was not only a successful sea captain but for a time in the mid 1800's he served as the Postmaster of South Dennis. With its proximity to Bass River, the home was a perfect stop for the packet ships sailing up the river.
